How the numbers work
A useful result without mystery math.
This test uses a reviewed set of common lowercase English words. The prompt is long enough that even a fast typist will not reach its end during a 60-second run.
- WPM
- Correct characters still in place at the finish are divided by five, then scaled to one minute. Spaces count as characters.
- Raw WPM
- Every accepted character counts, including a character you later remove. It shows pace before correctness is applied.
- Accuracy
- Accuracy compares accepted characters with mistakes made along the way, so correcting a typo does not erase that attempt.
Why does the clock wait after Start?
Start prepares the input, but the timer begins only when your first printable character is accepted. You do not lose time moving your hands back to the keyboard.
What is saved?
This browser can keep up to 50 result summaries: duration, WPM inputs, accuracy inputs, and completion time. The prompt, what you typed, and individual key timing are not stored. See the privacy note for the full boundary.
Why is paste disabled?
A speed result should reflect keyboard input. Paste, drop, replacement, cut, undo, and redo are blocked during a run, while ordinary Backspace remains available.
How should I compare results?
Compare runs with the same duration and prompt version. A short test is a quick snapshot; a 60-second run usually gives a steadier picture of pace and accuracy.
